OUR MYSTERIOUS NAMESAKE

Cigar Star - Cigar Aficionado Doug Wood, our founder and an avid collector of cigar art, glimpsed the La Perla Habana ("Pearl of Havana") box label in his travels and was taken by the romanticism and tradition of the turn-of-the-century Cuban art. Even searching archives in Cuba turned up nothing. The brand, long dead, left no traces. Then, a stroke of luck! One of the elusive stone lithographs appeared at auction. Wood outbid all comers, and the artwork now adorns the boxes and bands of La Perla Habana cigars and the Black Pearl Coffee. Tobacconists and smokers alike recognize how the beautiful artwork exemplifies our commitment to the old Cuban tradition of pride and quality. We now bring this same attention to detail to our wonderful line of coffee!

Below is a picture of Doug Wood holding one of the original 19th century stone lithographs of the La Perla Habana labels. It is one of four known in existence in the world. The framed canvas is a reproduction in his office.
